Read the Judge’s order in his 2007 decision against the multiple Syracuse, New York law enforcement officers who unlawfully kidnapped Sonny, as a teenager, in 1998 and took him into an isolated satellite police office in the housing complex where they beat and sodomized him in an unlawful cavity search and seizure. This lawsuit created a bright red retaliation target on Sonny’s back, culminating in three future cases, with a price tag of being sentenced to prison for a total of 77 cumulative years.

Sonny’s Sentencing Statement- Sonny gave this speech as his sentencing statement, without the aid of notes, given from his heart to describe his feelings of the racist and corrupt trial he was subjected to that will leave Sonny behind bars until he is about 65 years old.
A torturous lynching of a bright, intelligent, spiritual man and a brilliant Jailhouse Lawyer.
End the slavery of Mass Incarceration and Wrongful Incarcerations of Innocent People.

In 2017, Derrick “Sonny” Wilson was found not-guilty of being framed for a cold case homicide in 2000 in Syracuse. Before then, Veteran Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick said he’d never seen a pro se murder defendant win a trial. In 2015, twelve defendants took a plea deal which involved lying in court against Sonny in exchange for a lighter sentence. Sonny was threatened and charged with a cold case murder in retaliation for refusing to take a plea deal. Instead, Sonny filed motions exposing the underlying fabrication of evidence by government officials relating to the drug conspiracy charges, naming him as the Kingpin.
The next day, the Assistant United States Attorney colluded with New York State prosecutors from Onondaga County to initiate the process of charging Sonny with a fifteen year old cold case that was predicated on fabricated evidence and never properly investigated. The government took out an insurance policy to put Sonny away for life. If they lost the fabricated drug case – they would convict him for murder in the cold case.
Either way, the government wanted to make sure Sonny died in prison as retaliation for Sonny’s Victory in challenging the five law enforcement officers when he was a teenager. Nobody does that in Syracuse, New York and gets away with it. Sonny has learned that the hard way. Judge Suddaby was part of the District Attorneys office in the 2000 fabricated drug case that handed down a 21 to life sentence and Judge Suddaby served as Sonny’s “Jim Crow” judge in the 2016 fabricated drug conspiracy federal case, sentencing Sonny to 28 years on count one and 28 years on count two. Only thing missing was the noose.
Judge Suddaby held another hearing after sentencing to correct himself that the sentences would run concurrently. Had he made a mistake or did he have a change of heart? Was he admonished and coerced into changing his mind? We don’t know. Either way, Sonny will be almost 65 years old if he serves out his sentence in full, missing out on raising his daughter who will already be in her 30’s.
The same way he missed raising his son having been locked away from the age of 20 to 30. The sad side effect of corruption in the Jim Crow justice system, mass incarceration, wrongful convictions, prosecutorial misconduct and excessive sentencing are the millions of children of color being robbed of their mothers and fathers and brothers and sisters and aunts and uncles and grandparents and cousins.
Derrick “Sonny” Wilson is just one of these stories. The MACHINE has to be stopped.
Read the article below from 2017 when Sonny was acquitted of homicide charges, defending himself pro se. One of the very few to successfully defend themselves against a murder charge without an attorney.
